Why Choose Us?

What is the advantage of My Choice’s service compared to other options (i.e. DSL, Verizon Cell Cards,…)?

Each service has its strengths and shortcomings.  We stack up very well against each of them.  In addition to this, we’re also a local business.

We employ a local staff, pay local taxes, own our office building (through an affiliated company) and own much of our infrastructure.  We try to do business with local companies and hope that also matters to you.    Now, as to each of the other ways you might get Internet service:

DSL – this is available in some areas but Verizon or AT&T does not go into the areas outside of the downtown area.  In addition, you’re often required to have a local phone service which many would otherwise abandon for their cell phone.  This makes the total cost of the service much higher.  With My Choice you can “cut the cord” and reduce this often unnecessary expenses.  DSL speeds are limited - you can only get ADSL which is asynchronous (that’s what the “A” stands for).  You can download at one speed but uploading is much slower.   DSL service degrades with distance and you can only get a “best available” service.  They also don’t readily offer plans with static IP addresses and don’t offer public IP addresses.

Verizon Cell Cards – Whether from Verizon, Sprint or any of the other providers these cards are costly for anyone that does not do very limited things.  An average download speed is about 150 kbps, about 1/10 the speed of some of our service packages.   The cost most actually pay is FAR greater than a My Choice connection.   For example, the monthly service for one customer (who is transferring his service to My Choice) costs $60 and he gets about 5 GB of throughput.  After this they charge a MUCH HIGHER RATE.   They also throttle back service levels to some popular websites and functions (i.e. Facebook, YouTube, file sharing sites,…).   Plans with public IP addresses may not be available.

Other Wireless Providers – There are other good options for wireless service.  My Choice is the largest provider in the southern Illinois area and is growing.   We expect to be adding several new towns during the next few months and are considering several more acquisitions to more quickly grow our coverage area.   Many wireless providers grow quickly into a small footprint but then lack the resources to grow and adapt their network to new technology.  This means many of them are using older equipment and running on lower quality Internet connections.  We know of more than one that runs on low cost residential DSL lines.
